Standards development

We regularly review and update our standards to ensure they reflect the evolving needs of our partners, and the broader agricultural industry.

Here's how we developed our standards during 2024.
We started 2024 with an important update of two elements of the Regenagri standard to drive a more granular farm assessment, making it fairer and more accessible to farms in any region in the world.

This included:
1. Enhanced contextualisation in farm standards
We introduced 36 criteria to assess regenerative practices and measure their environmental impact. The update also provided farms with the capability to assess a more diverse range of features tailored to localised conditions, which makes the standard globally scalable.

Contextualisation is based on conditions including: - geographical climate
- soil type
- farm type
- the combination of practices implemented.

This structured approach provides a more comprehensive and fairer evaluation of farmland, taking distinct characteristics into account.
2. Socialised criteria
We introduced a new set of criteria to ensure that farms adhere to requirements regarding child labour and young workers, freedom of association, freely chosen employment, wages and benefits, and health and safety.
Later in the year, we launched a complementary set of five new or updated standards designed to enhance both the sustainability and traceability of regeneratively grown food and textiles.

These standards added quantifiable criteria behind companies’ regenerative claims.

Together, the following new and revised standards provide a more comprehensive framework for assessing and verifying the positive impacts of regenerative agriculture, ensuring greater traceability and environmental stewardship across supply chains.

1. New Regenagri claims requirements overview
The Regenagri claims requirements overview provides guidance on making marketing, product, commitment and impact claims linked to Regenagri-certified farms and products. It outlines the responsibilities of organisations in line with set requirements.
2. New Regenagri Carbon Insetting Standard

The Regenagri Carbon Insetting Standard allows supply chain organisations to inset impact generated at farm level. The impact claims can be made within the same supply chain and in accordance with the requirements of the standard.

Carbon insetting units, representing a reduction in carbon footprint, offer producers an additional financial reward in return for improvements made through their regenerative farming practices.

At the same time, businesses who acquire carbon insetting units from producers within their supply chain can reduce their Scope 3 GHG emissions.

3. Regenagri Content Standard (regenagriCS) update
This standard offers a robust framework for chain of custody requirements across food, feed, and textile materials, setting requirements for the content of regeneratively grown products from farm to final product.

The changes to this standard included new requirements for transaction certificates, additional traceability systems in addition to transaction certificates and due diligence.

The long-term goal of this standard is to increase the adoption of regeneratively produced products and therefore provide significant environmental benefits, such as reduced carbon footprint, enhanced biodiversity and improved soil health. This will give an assured route to market for regenerative produce.
4. Regenagri Chain of Custody Food update
Applicable to food products and their supply chains, the Chain of Custody (CoC) Standard has been updated to require a minimum of 80% Regenagri-certified content. This standard also includes traceability assurance, regulatory requirements and segregation throughout the supply chain.
5. Regenagri Chain of Custody Textile update
This standard applies to textile production and emphasises the importance of traceability and segregation from primary processing to end products. This includes strict minimum content requirements to Regenagri certified materials.
Collectively, these updated standards reflect Regenagri’s growth and our commitment to continuous improvement, addressing the evolving needs of the agricultural industry.
